Role Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, performance, integrity, security, and availability of enterprise databases. The role ensures optimal database design, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting while supporting application development and business operations.
Educational Qualification
- M. Tech, MCA, B.E (Comp), B. Tech with 60% marks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Management & Administration
- Install, configure, and upgrade database servers (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)
- Manage database storage, user accounts, roles, and permissions.
- Monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations.
- Perform regular maintenance—including backups, patches, and optimization tasks.
2. Performance Tuning
- Analyze slow-running queries and optimize execution plans.
- Tune indexes, caching, memory usage, I/O, and schema design.
- Work with developers on query optimization and best SQL practices.
3. Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Create and maintain robust backup strategies.

Implement disaster recovery (DR) and high-availability solutions:
- AlwaysOn, Data Guard, RAC, Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering.
- Perform database restores and failover testing.
4. Security & Compliance
- Manage user access controls, roles, and encryption policies.
- Implement auditing and comply with security standards (ISO, SOC, GDPR).
- Ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
5. Database Design & Modeling
- Collaborate with developers and architects to design normalized databases.
- Perform logical and physical data modeling.
- Support schema migration, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
6. Monitoring & Maintenance
- Set up monitoring tools (OEM, CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Maintain 24/7 availability for production databases.
- Manage logs, storage usage, and regular database health checks.
7. Automation & Scripting
- Develop automation scripts using Shell, PowerShell, Python, SQL, or Ansible.
- Automate repetitive tasks (backups, index rebuild, monitoring alerts).
8. Cloud Database Support
- Manage cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, Google Cloud SQL).
- Configure autoscaling, backups, read replicas, and security groups.
- Support hybrid or migration scenarios (on-premise → cloud).

Hands-on experience with one or more DB systems:
- Oracle
- SQL Server
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- MongoDB
- Cassandra
- Redis

Understanding of:
- Database security
- Replication, clustering, DR strategies
- Linux/Windows server administration
- Cloud database services
Preferred
- Experience with Data Warehousing or ETL tools.
- Knowledge of DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Kubernetes or containerized DBs.
- Familiarity with ORM frameworks (Hibernate, JPA).
- Experience with big data systems (Hadoop, Spark).
