Every year, the Central Vigilance Commission observes Vigilance Awareness Week to reaffirm the commitment to integrity, transparency and public accountability. This year, the week is being observed from 26 October to 1 November 2026 under the theme “सत्यनिष्ठा से समृद्धि” (Probity for Prosperity).
Sri Ravi Gupta, IPS (Retd.), Executive Vice Chairman & Director General, Centre for Good Governance (CGG), graced the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations organised by the Vigilance Department, South Central Railway, as the Chief Guest. He delivered an engaging address on Railways and Public Trust with Vigilance as an Instrument of Good Governance.
Drawing on his foundational career experience with Indian Railways, enriched by his extensive professional experience and relatable real-life anecdotes, Sri Ravi Gupta shared valuable insights into integrity and ethical administration. He stressed the importance of taking ownership, accepting responsibility and continuously improving systems in public administration. He highlighted how integrity is reflected in small, everyday decisions and how technology can strengthen transparency and accountability. Through “The Railway Signal — A Lesson in Integrity,” he illustrated the importance of ethical conduct in public service. He particularly emphasised that in Indian Railways, integrity is not merely an ethical requirement but also a safety imperative, underscoring the vital role of accountability and ethical decision-making in ensuring safe railway operations and strengthening public trust.
Concluding his address with a powerful message, he said:
“सत्यनिष्ठा केवल एक आदर्श नहीं, बल्कि सुशासन की आधारशिला है।” (“Integrity is not merely an ideal; it is the foundation of good governance.”)
He further observed: “जहाँ सत्यनिष्ठा है, वहाँ विश्वास है। जहाँ विश्वास है, वहाँ विकास है। और जहाँ विकास है, वहीं वास्तविक समृद्धि है।” (“Where there is integrity, there is trust. Where there is trust, there is progress. And where there is progress, there is true prosperity.”)
His address reinforced the message that integrity, transparency and accountability are fundamental to strengthening public trust, advancing good governance and achieving sustainable prosperity.
